5 expert ideas for storing HD supplies
- Consider stacking up, not out. Based on your space, you may have the option to stack some supplies vertically as long as they're stable. This could use less floor space.
- Maximize unused storage space. Try sliding supplies under beds or stacking them in closets, out of sight.
- Store small supplies in stackable storage drawers. Using drawers on wheels will let you move supplies out of the way when not in use.
- Order fewer supplies at a time. It’s best to have 6 weeks of supplies at home. If you have storage issues, you may be able to order a smaller amount more frequently.
- Unpack supplies from boxes. This can cut down on volume. Note that some supplies should remain in boxes if there’s a chance you’ll return them later.

2500 lb Storage Rack for Dialysate Bags
Finding a heavy-duty shelving unit that can safely handle the weight of dialysate bags is crucial for maintaining a safe and organized storage space. Look for shelving units specifically designed for industrial or heavy-duty use, with sturdy materials like steel construction and reinforced shelves. Make sure to check the weight capacity of the shelves to ensure they can accommodate the weight of your dialysate bags. Adjustable shelving may also be beneficial for customizing the storage space to fit your needs. Remember to consider factors like the size of the shelving unit and its dimensions to ensure it fits in your designated storage area.
*Great for storage of 19 bags on each shelf depending on the spacing of the shelves
*Added below Yoga mats to protect floor if any bags leak.
*Because the dialysate bags are heavy I put my small saline bags on the top of the shelving unit.

Storage Totes to Organize Supplies
Organizing dialysis supplies with totes is a smart way to keep everything neatly sorted and easily accessible. Here's a variety of tote sizes you might find useful:
-
Small Totes: These are great for storing smaller items like syringes, alcohol swabs, or tape. Look for totes around 6-8 inches in length and width.
-
Medium Totes: Perfect for items like tubing, gauze pads, or gloves. Medium-sized totes usually range from 10-12 inches in length and width.
-
Large Totes: These can accommodate bulkier supplies such as saline solutions. Look for totes around 14-16 inches in length and width.
-
Extra Large Totes: For oversized items or for storing a larger quantity of supplies, extra-large totes are ideal. These can be 18 inches or more in length and width.
Consider transparent or clear totes so you can easily see the contents without having to open them. Additionally, look for durable totes that can withstand the weight of your supplies and are easy to clean to maintain a sanitary storage environment.

Finding the Space to Store Supplies
Dialysis supplies are delivered to your door once a month. Each delivery includes a month and a half's worth of supplies, all shipped on a pallet.
During the winter months we currently store these boxes along the wall in our heated garage. During the summer mouths we store the extra supplies, still wrapped in the plastic in the shed on a storage shelf on the pallet.
You will always maintain a large amount of supplies, so be prepared to have a place to keep these. In the winter months dialysate bags may freeze during shipping and when they thaw they will leak all over the place if not caught early enough.
