Hawaii Travel Experience
Traveling within the U.S.A. 48 states is the easiest, but Nxstage will deliver to all 50!
In February of 2022 we embarked on another adventure this time to somewhere warmer. Finding out if Nxstage would deliver to "The Big Island" of Hawaii was another adventure. It was difficult to plan because they only shipped supplies to the island on certain days of certain weeks. 2nd obstacle was I had booked AirBNBs for our entire trip. Some allow early deliveries while others do not. I booked with one that didn't, recommendation for next trip find one that will. I called over to UPS and started asking questions if they could hold the boxes and deliver on a certain day. Yes they would! I was golden.
Because airplanes do not have extra room inside, they would rather check my machine. Ok they won't let me carry it on. They instantly send you back to bag check with something that large unless you are preforming treatment while flying.
After a long flights we got to the big island and to our condo. The next day UPS should be delivering my supplies. Before the trip I call UPS on the daily until they confirmed that they received my shipment of boxes. The supplies didn't come, I was tracking them and it showed they would be out for delivery the next day... that was not in my schedule. Prepared I started to do more and more while traveling I had pack one treatment of dialysate bags and hauled them with for that just in case event, plus I had scoped out online the nearest dialysis clinic in case I had issues with shipment. I ran and was planning on getting my supplies the next day. They still did not come until late that evening. Almost 2 days after scheduled timeframe.
Once all of my supplies had arrived we could carry on with our adventures. Because I now have a fistula I really am not restricted from water activities. We took in scuba driving, zip lining and lots of hiking.
LESSONS LEARNED:
1. Plan ahead for things to not run perfect, have a backup plan.
2. Check with AirBnBs for early deliveries or if they can hold medical supplies somewhere
3. Check if you order has shipped and have tracking number and phone numbers with you.
